The AI animation maker that finishes the video

An AI animation maker turns words into a finished animated video. Motion2D does the whole job: it researches your topic, writes the story, draws characters that stay the same, narrates it and adds captions. Many AI animation generators give you a few seconds of moving picture and leave the rest to you.

What happens after you press Make

Behind one button there are several steps, each done by a different part of the system. Knowing them helps you write better prompts.

  • Research: the topic is looked up so the script rests on facts, not memory
  • Script: narration is written for the length and audience you chose
  • Cast and sets: characters and places are designed once for the whole story
  • Scenes: each line of narration gets a scene, with movement and camera
  • Voice and captions: narration is spoken, then captions are timed word by word
  • Render: everything is put together into one MP4

A clip generator versus an animation maker

An AI animation generator usually turns a prompt or an image into a short shot, often 5 to 10 seconds. That is useful for a moment, but a video needs dozens of moments that agree with each other.

An AI animation maker has to keep track of the whole story: who the characters are, where each scene happens, what the narrator is saying at that second. That bookkeeping is what Motion2D is built around.

  • Same characters from the first scene to the last
  • Every scene timed to the narration
  • One MP4 out, ready to upload

Online, on any computer

It runs online in your browser, so there is no APK or installer to trust and no graphics card needed. Start a video on a laptop, close it, and download the result on your phone.

If you would rather run it yourself, the original open-source Windows app does the same job offline on your own PC.

What it is not

It is not a 3D tool, a game animation rig or a puppet editor for Roblox characters. It makes 2D cartoon videos: explainers, stories, lessons and Shorts. Being clear about that is why the results look finished.

Example: a 3-minute history video

Input: How the printing press changed Europe, 3 minutes, English, 16:9. Output: about 25 scenes, from Gutenberg's workshop in Mainz to a crowded 16th-century bookshop, narrated in a calm documentary voice with word-by-word captions. It uses 3 credits, so a Starter plan's 10 monthly credits cover three of these with one credit to spare.

Questions and answers

What is the best AI animation maker?

It depends on what you need. For short artistic shots, clip generators are strong. For complete narrated cartoon videos from a topic or script, Motion2D is built for that job. See our comparison of AI animation tools.

Is there a free AI animation maker?

Motion2D itself is paid, from $20 a month, and has no watermark on any plan. The same engine is free and open source as the ToonDirector app for Windows, if you'd rather run it on your own PC. Our free animation software guide lists other free tools.

Is there an app or APK?

The web app works in mobile and desktop browsers, so there is nothing to install. We don't publish an APK; be careful with unofficial ones.

How long can the animation be?

From 30 seconds up to 15 minutes per video on the web, and you can add scenes later.

Can I use AI animations commercially?

Yes. Videos you make on a paid plan are yours to publish and monetise, within our terms. Copyright in AI output depends on your country; see AI animation and copyright.

Do I need animation experience?

No. You describe what you want in plain words. Experience helps you write sharper notes, but it isn't required.

Can I edit the video after it's made?

There's no timeline editor. You can redraw the look with Draw it again, or add scenes to make it longer. To change the words, make a new version from an edited script.

Your next video starts with one sentence.

Type a topic. Motion2D researches it, writes it, draws it and voices it.
